Elly Aerden zingt samen met Zefiro Torna in hun nieuwe productie ‘Balsam ‘.
In de lijn van de uitgebreide concerttournees en internationale successen van de producties ‘Les Tisserands, in de geest van de Katharen’ en ‘O, Monde Aveugle!, liederen voor de Apocalyps’, werkte Zefiro Torna de opvolger ‘Balsam’uit. Het hybride collectief bestaat uit muzikanten actief in uiteenlopende genres als oude, traditionele, etnische en jazzmuziek. Ze vinden elkaar in hun liefde voor aparte vocale en instrumentale timbres, in hun fijnzinnige muzikale smaak en innemende samenspel. De composities uit het programma Balsam dragen namen als Alchemilla/Vrouwenmantel, les Roses de Saadi of Artemisia absinthium. Ze weerklinken naast traditionele gezangen uit Portugal en Griekenland, Oudnoorse Edda liederen over de Yggdrasil of levensboom, spirituele melodieën van Hildegard von Bingen, fijnmazige 15e-eeuwse muziek van Guillaume Dufay en barokke pracht van Heinrich Schütz. Ze refereren aan teksten van Vergilius, verzen uit het Hooglied en poëzie van tijdgenoten van Charles Baudelaire en Emile Verhaeren.
Elly Aerden joins Zefiro Torna in the production ‘Balsam – a titillating herbal lab’. The compositions from the program Balsam bear names such as Mirto, Charbel, Alchemilla/Lady’s mantle, Artemisia absinthium or l’Immortelle. They resound in the company of traditional songs from Sardinia, Old Norse Edda songs about the Yggdrasil or tree of life, spiritual songs from Hildegard von Bingen and close-knit 14th-century Ars Subtilior music. They refer to texts of the Song of Songs, the Laura verses from Petrarca’s ‘Canzoniere’ or Baudelaire’s collection of poetry ‘Les Fleurs du Mal’.
Balsam pulverizes, soaks, ferments and distils in an immeasurable search for the quintessence of mankind.
The production Balsam sees the daylight following the elaborate concert tours and international acclaim of Les Tisserands, in the spirit of the Cathars en O, Monde Aveugle!, songs for the Apocalypse. The hybrid collective consists of musicians coming from a wide range of musical genres such as old, traditional, ethnic and jazz music. They find each other in their love for singular vocal and instrumental nuances, in their delicate musical preferences and in their engaging performance. The programme was selected by REMA, the European Early Music Network.
